Sorong is the mainland gateway to Raja Ampat, and Sorong Marina is the shoreside desk that makes a call there work. We are a coordination and advisory brand, not a physical marina: Sorong does not yet have an international-standard yacht marina with floating berths and dedicated yacht services. Visiting yachts and liveaboards use commercial port berths, alongside quays and open anchorages. Our job is to line up the authorities, the quay space, the fuel, the water, the provisions and the transfers so that a vessel arrives, turns around and sails on schedule.
What Sorong Marina actually does
Sorong Marina is a specialist maritime brand under Juara Holding Group, operating as shoreside coordinator for vessels calling at Sorong, West Papua. We work with three groups: foreign yachts and superyachts entering or leaving Indonesian waters, Indonesian-flag liveaboards using Sorong as a turnaround base for Raja Ampat itineraries, and owners or investors assessing marina and waterfront projects in the region.
Every engagement is scoped in writing before work begins, and every quotation is stated in USD. We do not publish tariffs for third-party government charges, because those are set by the relevant authority and change without notice; we quote our coordination fee separately from any official charge, and we pass official receipts through unchanged.
Core service lines
- Yacht and superyacht clearance — arrival and departure formalities with Quarantine, Immigration, Customs and the Harbour Master, including advance document preparation.
- Full yacht and liveaboard agency — a single point of contact for the whole call, from pre-arrival notice to port clearance out.
- Berth and anchorage coordination — securing alongside space at commercial quays, or briefing you on the anchorages actually used by visiting yachts.
- Bunkering, potable water and provisioning — fuel delivery, fresh water, cold-chain and dry stores.
- Technical support and repair coordination — engineers, spares and workshop access, including urgent defects.
- Liveaboard turnaround services — the compressed guest-out, guest-in day that dive fleets live or die by.
- Crew change and guest handling — airport meet-and-greet, transfers, accommodation and ferry coordination.
- Superyacht support and concierge — for vessels whose draft, beam and expectations exceed the local norm.
- Permits and Raja Ampat park regulations — what applies inside the marine protected area and how to comply.
- Marine logistics and port advisory — for cargo, project and infrastructure clients.
- Marina project support — feasibility framing, site screening and stakeholder mapping for a future Sorong marina.
Why Sorong, and why it is different from Bali or Labuan Bajo
Sorong’s advantage is distance. Waisai, the administrative centre of Raja Ampat, lies roughly sixty nautical miles across the Dampier approaches, a passage that a passenger fast ferry covers in about two hours and a displacement liveaboard covers overnight. Nothing else on the Indonesian entry-port list puts a yacht that close to Raja Ampat.
Sorong’s disadvantage is equally clear. It is a working commercial and fisheries port, not a yachting destination. There is no dedicated yacht basin, no fuel dock sized for pleasure craft, no chandlery stocked with European spares, and no marina office that will take your lines. Alongside space is negotiated with commercial port operators against their own vessel schedules. Provisioning is excellent for tropical produce and fish and thin for imported specialities. Getting this right is a matter of preparation, not luck — which is precisely the gap this desk exists to close. Our Sorong gateway guide sets out the practical picture in full.
How a typical call runs
We ask for vessel particulars, crew and guest lists, and your intended arrival window as early as you can give them — a week ahead is comfortable, forty-eight hours is workable, same-day is possible but constrains what we can pre-arrange. We file the pre-arrival notice, brief you on where to bring the vessel, and meet you on arrival. Formalities are handled in sequence rather than in parallel, because the local offices expect it that way. Bunkering, water and stores are scheduled against your alongside window, not against ours. Departure clearance is filed once we know your next port, and we hand you the paperwork before you sail.
Honest limits
We publish what we can evidence and nothing else. We do not claim membership of associations we do not belong to, we do not display awards we have not received, and we do not publish reviews we cannot attribute. Where a rule, a tariff or an office hour matters to your voyage, we tell you which authority owns it and we verify the current position before you commit. Regulations affecting foreign yachts in Indonesia have changed repeatedly over the past decade, and anything you read online — including here — should be confirmed against the position on the day you sail.
Talk to the desk
Send us the vessel, the dates and what you need done. We will tell you what is possible in Sorong, what is not, and what it costs in USD. If the answer is that another port suits you better, we will say so. Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sorong have an international-standard yacht marina?
No. Sorong does not yet have an international-standard yacht marina with floating berths, fuel dock and yacht-dedicated services. Visiting yachts use commercial port berths or anchor off. Sorong Marina is a shoreside coordination and advisory brand that arranges berthing, clearance and logistics, and supports marina development work — not a physical marina operator.
How far is Sorong from Raja Ampat?
Waisai, the administrative centre of Raja Ampat, lies roughly sixty nautical miles from Sorong. Fast passenger ferries make the crossing in about two hours; a displacement liveaboard typically runs it overnight. Sorong is the closest official Indonesian port of entry to the Raja Ampat archipelago.
Do I need an agent to clear a yacht in Sorong?
An agent is not legally mandatory for every vessel, but it is strongly advisable for first-time visitors, superyachts, commercial charter operations and tight turnarounds. An agent pre-files documents, sequences the four authorities correctly, negotiates quay access and works in Bahasa Indonesia with the offices concerned.
In what currency do you quote?
All Sorong Marina quotations and contract values are stated in USD. Official government charges are passed through at the amount levied by the authority concerned, with receipts, and are shown separately from our coordination fee.
